Studying individual subjects or courses in Upper Secondary School for Adults
Studying individual subjects or courses means
- Studying individual subjects or courses in general upper secondary education
- Improving grades in the general upper secondary or basic education certificate
Those students who do not aim to gain a certificate but study only individual subjects or courses have to pay a single fee of 95 € per school year, for which they can study as many courses as they want during the school year. An enrolment as a subject student binds you to pay the fee.
The subjects you can study in basic education are English and Finnish as a Second Language. The courses in English are meant for those who know some basics of English. The courses in Finnish as a Second Language (S2) start from introductory courses and extend to the final phase of basic education for adults. In S2 the introductory courses (CEFR levels A1-A2) are meant for those who have not studied Finnish earlier or know some basics of Finnish. The courses are taught in Finnish but English can be used as an auxiliary language when needed. The intermediate courses (CEFR levels A2-B1) are meant for those who already know the basics of Finnish or have studied Finnish for about a year. The courses are mainly taught in Finnish.
You can also study both English and Finnish as a Second Language in general upper secondary education. In S2 the upper secondary courses (CEFR levels B1-B2) are meant for those who have a good basic knowledge of Finnish or have studied Finnish for more than a year. The courses are taught in Finnish.
