Study options at Gradia
At Gradia, you can choose from a range of programmes suited to your background and language skills.
Most of our programmes are delivered in Finnish, and sufficient Finnish language skills are required for studying.
We also offer study options for newcomers and non-Finnish speakers, including language-supported training and some programmes in English.

Proficiency Licence Training in easy Finnish
Who is it for?
You want to work in fields that require a permit or qualification card.
What will you study?
- Content: Short training where you get the knowledge and skills needed for the card.
- Goal: You receive an official card required in many jobs.
- For example: Occupational safety card, hygiene passport, hot work card
Language requirement
Finnish A2.2.

Vocational training with language support (units of a qualification)
Who is it for?
You want to gain vocational skills and improve your Finnish language skills.
What will you study?
- You complete one or more units of a vocational qualification.
- Scope 45 competence points (cp), duration 10 months
- Teaching is provided by both a vocational teacher and a Finnish as a second language teacher.
- Studies are conducted in Finnish with additional language support.
Language requirement
Finnish at least A2.2.

Vocational training partly in English (units of a qualification)
Who is it for?
You want to gain vocational skills, improve your Finnish, and study partly in English.
What will you study?
- You complete one or more units of a vocational qualification.
- Scope 75 competence points (cp), duration 1 year
- At the beginning of the studies, some parts of the training are available in English.
- Qualification units are completed in Finnish.
- The training requires students to study Finnish independently in addition to the classes.
Language requirement:
- English B1.1. (e.g. 85 points in the Duolingo English Test)

Studying for a full qualification
Vocational qualification in English
Who is it for?
You want to learn a new profession and complete a vocational qualification in English.
What will you study?
- Scope 180 competence points (cp), duration 2–3 years.
- 145 cp of vocational units and 35 cp of common units.
- Basic knowledge and skills of a profession.
- Workplace learning as part of your studies.
- Common subjects such as mathematics, digital skills, English, working life skills and entrepreneurship.
- You will gain readiness for further studies.
Language requirement:
English B1.1. (e.g. 85 Duolingo points).
Note:
While studies are mainly in English, Finnish language skills are useful in workplace learning.

Who is it for?
You want to learn a new profession and complete a vocational qualification.
What will you study?

- Workplace learning.

Apprenticeship training
Who is it for?
You have a job or your own business and want to complete a vocational qualification or study qualification units.
What will you study?
- Professional knowledge and skills mainly at the workplace in your field, with relevant tasks
- About 80% of learning takes place at work and 20% at school
- In vocational upper secondary qualifications, you also study common subjects
- You can also study partial qualifications
- You will gain readiness for further studies

General upper secondary education
General upper secondary education (lukio) in Finnish
Who is it for?
You have completed basic education and want to continue your studies in general upper secondary education.
What will you study?
- General upper secondary subjects
- You will gain readiness for higher education

In English:
At Jyväskylän Lyseo General Upper Secondary School, you can study in English either in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme or in the new national general upper secondary education programme in English, which leads to the Finnish matriculation examination.
