How to Apply for the Vocational Education at Gradia?

1. Read the training description on the Studyinfo website and Gradia’s webpages. 

• Please explore Gradia’s study options carefully.
• Carefully familiarize yourself with the selection criteria and any possible annual tuition fees.

2. For language skills assessment, take the Duolingo English Test (DET).  

• The general score for language proficiency must be at least 85 points.  
• The test must be no more than two years old.
• Select Jyväskylä Educational Consortium Gradia as the institution in Duolingo so that we can access your certificate.

3. Apply for the training programme in Studyinfo. 

• Fill in the application form and attach the requested documents to your application during the application period. 
• All applicants are required to submit
  • a certificate and a link of the Duolingo English Test 
  • a certificate of completion of Comprehensive School Certificate or an equivalent qualification. The certificate must be translated into English, Finnish, or Swedish. 
• If multiple applications are submitted for the same training programme, the latest application will remain valid, and the others will be automatically cancelled. 
• Documents cannot be submitted separately by email, and open applications will not be accepted via email. 

4. Complete the pre-assignment and submit it by the deadline. 

• All applicants who fulfil the selection criteria and apply in time will receive the pre-assignment by email after the application period ends. 
• Complete the pre-assignment carefully and answer all questions honestly yourself. 
• The application will be considered cancelled if the pre-assignment is not returned by the deadline. 

5. Participate in the selection event if you receive an invitation. 

• Based on the application and the pre-assignment, some applicants who meet the selection criteria will be invited to the selection event. 
• More detailed information about the organization of the selection event can be found in the training description for each programme. 

You can apply for Gradia’s programmes through continuous admission or the Joint application system. In continuous admission, application periods and start dates vary depending on the programme. The joint application to upper secondary education is open only to applicants who do not already have an upper secondary qualification from Finland or abroad.

• Browse Gradia’s study opportunities and choose a programme that interests you. You can find the programmes on Gradia.fi and Studyinfo websites.
• Read about the programme content, selection criteria, schedules, and Finnish language requirements.
• Check any programme-specific costs and tuition fees before applying.

2. How to apply for a programme?

•  Fill in the application form and attach the requested documents to your application during the application period.
• Take part in all stages of the application process. The programme descriptions explain whether the application process includes compulsory interviews, pre-assignments, application events or selection events. 

3. Finnish language skills assessment

• Applicants whose native language is not Finnish and who have not submitted sufficient proof of their Finnish language skills will be invited to a Finnish language skills assessment.
• The result of the language skills assessment will not be given to the applicant separately, because it is part of the selection criteria.
• More information about the language skills assessment and certificates that exempt applicants from the assessment is available on Gradia’s website (only available in Finnish).

4. Selections for programmes: In continuous admission 

• At Gradia, common criteria are used for the student selection of vocational upper secondary qualifications. More information about the common selection criteria and scoring is available in Finnish (Jatkuvan haun ammatillisten perustutkintojen valintakriteerit).
• For further vocational qualifications and specialist vocational qualifications, each field defines its own selection criteria. More information is available in the programme descriptions.
• Selection results are usually sent by email after the application process has ended.

5. Selections for programmes: In the joint application 

• National selection criteria are used: Student admission in the joint application to upper secondary education and preparatory education.
• If the applicant has completed education abroad, the selection is based on discretionary admission.
• Selection results are published in June according to the annual Studyinfo timetable, about two weeks after the end of the basic education school year. The information is sent to the applicant by email.
