Selection Criteria for English-language Vocational Education

Selection criteria for English-language programmes

  • 18 years of age 
  • Certificate of completion of basic education or equivalent from Finland or abroad 
  • English language proficiency – Duolingo English Test. The minimum acceptable overall score is 85 points.

In the student selection process, the following will be assessed: 

  • Applicant’s prior education: whether the applicant has completed only basic or upper secondary school or additionally vocational or higher education in Finland or abroad. 
  • Applicant’s educational needs: those without a profession and those needing a career change, education and employment situation. 
  • For the applicant’s starting point for completing the qualification, previous studies and work experience will be taken into account. 
  • Applicant’s goal and motivation: hobbies as well as plans during studies and after graduation.

SORA-legislation for social and healthcare students 

The social and health sector follows degree-specific health requirements that may prevent admission (SORA legislation). You may be asked for information about your health status for the purpose of assessing and making decisions about admission at any time during the application process.

Health requirements for the Vocational Qualification in Social and Health Care (Practical Nurse)

 A reason for not being admitted as a student may be:  

  • an illness or injury that limits physical health and ability to function 
  • an illness or disability that prevents communication and sign language 
  • hand rash that limits practical work tasks 
  • dependence on medications or problematic use or misuse of drugs 
  • a mental health disorder or psychological illness that is not under control 
  • substance dependence or substance abuse or misuse 
  • a functional impairment that makes interaction difficult 
  • a colour vision deficiency that limits practical work tasks
